UK Sport Leadership students use class project to make a difference

For nearly a decade, students taking a University of Kentucky sport leadership course have been discovering that a class assignment can be more than a chance to develop new skills. It can also be a way to give back. Graduate students in the UK College of Education [education.uky/khp]Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion course KHP 685, “Supervision of Sport and Fitness Personnel,” take part in the “Good Deeds Project.”  The annual assignment is designed to connect a community engagement element to functions of a supervisor.

Putting lessons into practice in elementary classrooms

For elementary education and special education majors, "unit day" is a culminating hands-on activity for the practicum semester. During unit day, pre-service teachers show off the skills they have gained in designing and teaching an interdisciplinary unit of instruction in area elementary schools.  Unit Day took place at the end of the fall 2023 semester at Breckinridge Elementary and Cassidy Elementary.

Two EPE Faculty Members Named "Great Teachers"

Congratulations to Eric Thomas Weber, Ph.D., and Kayla Johnson, Ph.D., faculty members in the UK College of Education Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation. They are among six UK faculty members receiving a 2024 Great Teacher Award. The UK Alumni Association surprised them during a college meeting in December. The Great Teacher Award is the oldest continuously presented award to recognize teachers at UK.

Forbes names Thelin’s book among best of 2023

When Forbes magazine announced its editor’s pick for the best higher education books of 2023, author and University of Kentucky College of Education professor emeritus John Thelin, Ph.D., made the list for the third time since 2019.
