Kinesiology and Health Promotion (KHP) is one of the fastest-growing departments at UK. We have a variety of programs from which to choose, including exercise science, teacher education programs in physical education and health education, and health promotion. We also offer minors in health promotion and coaching.

The courses offered within these undergraduate programs provide educational opportunities that are both intellectual and physical. The programs integrate materials learned in a classroom setting that can be applied in practical field experiences, with a number of research opportunities for hands-on learning and real-world experience making a difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

Major courses cover biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, sports, proper methods used in teaching P-12 health and physical education, community-engaged health promotion, and more.

Graduates work in fields such as physical education, health education, health promotion, physical therapy, sports leadership, fitness specialties (e.g., personal trainer, strength and conditioning, etc.), coaching and various health professions.

Undergraduate Advising

Get Involved

There are a variety of ways for our students to be involved. We offer a practicum in Exercise Science where students work in settings such as physical therapy clinics, hospitals, YMCAs, fitness facilities, and other locations so that students get real-world experience.

KHP students may also get involved in our undergraduate KHP Club, which is active in service projects, career education and social activities. KHP also offers all UK students a choice of more than 50 Life Fitness courses, which are one-credit classes in a variety of activities, ranging from kickboxing to Zumba to weight training.

KHP faculty and staff are known as student-friendly, so if you have not yet visited us at the Seaton Center on South Campus, please come by. It is a busy, fun place to study, learn, exercise, and be involved.
