Overview
The Curriculum & Instruction strand of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education Sciences program is designed for individuals seeking careers in higher education settings or other educational fields with an emphasis on conducting or analyzing educational research. To be eligible for the program, applicants must have an undergraduate and Master’s degree from accredited universities.
Each student’s program of study will consist of coursework in research methodologies, a series of core seminars related to curriculum and instruction, and a number of courses in the student’s area of specialization (e.g. Instructional Systems Design, Literacy, Social Studies Education).
After completing coursework, students will partake in a qualifying examination and then progress to the dissertation phase in which they will conduct original research related to an issue in their field of study. A student’s qualifying exam and dissertation research will be guided by a major professor and an advisory committee.
All applicants are encouraged to apply for 20-hour per-week assistantships, including teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and general graduate assistantships. These assistantships can help graduate students finance their studies by paying for all or some tuition costs and/or providing stipends.
