Prepare for a career that helps individuals, groups, and communities to take control of their health. Graduates may be employed as faculty members at a college or university, or work in other settings with an understanding of worksite health promotion, college health promotion, and applied current research.
Delivery Method: In-person
Credit Hours: Minimum of 42 Hours
Students in the doctoral program complete a core of 9-12 hours of health promotion courses, 9 hours of research/statistics/design courses plus supporting electives (with approval of the student’s advisory committee) for a total of at least 42 credit hours.
Electives may be selected from the Kinesiology and Health Promotion Department; other departments in the College of Education; College of Medicine; College of Health Sciences; College of Public Health; College of Nursing; College of Social Work; College of Communications and Information Studies; plus many more.
While working on a doctoral degree in health promotion, you may choose to complete a certificate in College Teaching and Learning, Gerontology, Medical Behavioral Science, or Health Communication, in addition to other areas.
After completing coursework and passing the qualifying examination, you will complete a dissertation. The dissertation takes most students at least one full year to complete.
