What can you do with this degree?

The Curriculum and Instruction strand of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education Sciences is designed with full-time or part-time options for people seeking careers in higher education or other educational fields, with an emphasis on educational research. Careers include: 

  • Teaching and conducting research in higher educational settings 
  • A career as a teacher educator 
  • Educational research or working with educational consulting firms 
  • Positions as curriculum or instructional specialists for school districts or state boards of education 

Delivery Method: Coursework is a mixture of in-person, remote, and hybrid instruction.

Credit Hours: A minimum of 36 hours prior to qualifying examination and dissertation phase.

Time to Completion: Varies depending on full or part-time status. Candidates are required to reach qualifying exam stage within 5 years of entering the program.

What You'll Study

Students may study Curriculum and Instruction broadly or specialize in an educational content area within the Curriculum and Instruction strand, such as Learning Design and Technology, Literacy Education, or Social Studies Education.

Students complete a set of core courses in research methods and then follow the strand of courses in the Curriculum and Instruction option. Students are involved in educational research projects throughout their time in the program.

Program Details

The Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education Sciences is a rigorous doctoral program that does not require year-round, full-time study. Students may enroll in any semester.
