Dr. Susan Cantrell is a Professor in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky and is the Acting Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Advancement. She conducts research focused on teachers’ professional learning, efficacy development, and instructional change. She is interested in how teachers create equitable classroom contexts for students’ language and literacy learning. Dr. Cantrell has served as principal investigator on two U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition National Professional Development grants, Project PLACE and Project ExCEL, which support K-8 teachers’ implementation of culturally responsive practices. In addition to conducting research and providing professional development for in-service teachers, Dr. Cantrell teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education and advises doctoral students.

  • Represents the college on faculty advancement committees; supports mentoring and onboarding.
