Kera Ackerman, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dr. Ackerman is an Assistant Professor of Special Education. Her research interests include training and coaching pre-service teachers through structured practice-based opportunities for explicit instruction, engagement, and feedback. She is interested in teacher productivity and the use of evidence-based and high leverage practices in resource and co-taught instructional settings.
Dr. Ackerman serves as the president of the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children Teacher Education Division (KYCEC-TED), the state co-lead for Kentucky Excellence in Educator Preparation (KEEP) and as the PI for the IHE Special Education Consortium where she works to increase connections between the Educator Preparation Programs in Kentucky, the Kentucky Department of Education, and the Special Education Regional Technical Assistance Centers. Dr. Ackerman is the PI for the UK SimLab which provides practice-based opportunities for pre and in-service teachers across the Commonwealth.
