Thank you for visiting the doctoral web page for the Physical Education Teaching graduate program at the University of Kentucky. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion offers a M.S. in Physical Education and Coaching and an Ed.D. with a Physical Education Teaching emphasis.

Curriculum

Physical Education Curriculum EdD

The Ed.D. program has a required core of classes and sample of electives. The student may have an emphasis in specific areas of education. The interdisciplinary nature of the program provides students with opportunities for coursework in or related to physical education, physical activity promotion, health promotion, epidemiology, sociology, behavioral science, and public health. Graduate class sizes tend to be small, which allows for discussion groups and more individual attention. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion places the highest possible value on each individual student and his/her needs. Our goal for you, as a doctoral candidate, is to prepare you to teach courses on physical education methods, physical education curriculum, and physical activity promotion at the undergraduate and graduate level, conduct quality research, write and publish research in high-quality journals, network with physical education teacher educators (PETE) from across the country and around the world, collaborate with faculty on research and service projects, and exhibit professional work ethic and behaviors as a PETE student/faculty member. Please see the graduate handbook for more details on policies and guidelines for completion of the degree.
