What can you do with this certificate?

The Undergraduate Certificate in Structurally Responsive Mental Health Care equips students with professional skills to enhance mental health for individuals and communities. Students will learn to build effective relationships, apply active listening and behavioral change theories, analyze how structural forces impact mental health access, and communicate across diverse backgrounds. This certificate prepares students for careers in health, helping, education, and wellness professions, with hands-on training in essential soft skills like communication, empathy, and cultural intelligence.

Certificate Requirements

The Undergraduate Certificate in Structurally Responsive Mental Health Care requires 15 credit hours as follows:

Required Courses

  • EDP 304: Social Justice Psychology (3) (Fall Only)
  • EDP 305: Introduction to Counseling Skills (3) (Fall Only)
  • EDP 306: Theories of Helping Behavior Change (3) (Spring Only)
  • EDP 307: Culturally Responsive Helping (3) (Spring Only) 

**Please note that EDP 305 is a prerequisite for EDP 306 and EDP 307**

Incoming Students: Minors and certificates can be declared once you are an enrolled student at the University.  

Current students: To add a minor or certificate, follow these instructions: 

  • Log on to your myUKGPS
  • Under “My Program of Study” on the right side of the page, click the link “Request a major/minor/certificate change”.  
  • This will allow you to add, change, or remove any major or minor.
