What can you do with this minor?

The Health Promotion Minor equips you with the knowledge and skillset to empower individuals to take control of and enhance their health, extending beyond individual behavior to encompass a variety of social and environmental strategies. This interdisciplinary area of study focuses on not only the physical wellbeing of individuals, but includes the social and emotional dimensions as well.

Health Promotion Minor Requirements

The minor in Coaching requires 18 credit hours as follows:

Required Courses

  • DHN 101: Human Nutrition and Wellness (3)
  • KHP 220: Sexuality Education (3)
  • KHP 230: Human Health and Wellness (3)
  • KHP 270: Introduction to Health Education and Promotion (3)
  • KHP 331: Program Planning in Health Promotion (3)
  • KHP 445 (3): Introduction to Tests and Measurements OR STA 210: Making Sense of Uncertainty: An Introduction to Statistical Reasoning (3)

Electives (choose 3 credit hours from the following)

  • KHP 310: Applied Health Education Practice (3)
  • KHP 590: Critical Issues in Health Promotion (3)
  • BSC 331: Behavioral Factors in Health and Disease (3)
  • HDF 252: Introduction to Relationships, Marriages, and Families (3)

Other health related elective courses may be selected with permission of the Health Promotion faculty or College of Education Director of Advising. Alternative electives must be relevant to the minor and student’s professional preparation program. 

How to Apply

Incoming Students: Minors and certificates can be declared once you are an enrolled student at the University.  

Current students: To add a minor, follow these instructions: 

  • Log on to your myUKGPS
  • Under “My Program of Study” on the right side of the page, click the link “Request a major change”.  
  • This will allow you to add, change, or remove any major or minor.
