During their final semester, students should apply for certification through the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) roughly one month prior to graduation.
To be eligible to apply, students must complete the following requirements:
- Pass all required PRAXIS II exams
- Students are encouraged to take these exams in the semester or summer prior to student teaching.
- UK (code #1837) and the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board KYEPSB (code#7283) should both be listed as score recipients when you register for Praxis Exams. ETS charges a $50 fee to send the scores if the score recipients are not listed at the time of registration.
- Successfully complete Student Teaching and all degree requirements
- Apply for graduation through myUK
- Submit an application for certification through the EPSB
Students planning to teach outside of Kentucky should review state-specific certification requirements, as they may vary. For more information about teaching outside ofKentucky, click here: https://education.uky.edu/accreditation/certification/states.
Once all requirements are met and certification is approved, go teach!
