Mission

The purpose of the Master of Arts in Secondary Education with Initial Certification (MIC) program is to prepare the next generation of social and racial justice educators who will work with students and families to advocate for educational justice in Kentucky schools, communities, and beyond.

Philosophy

Students in the Master of Arts in Secondary Education with Initial Certification (MIC) program will critically explore social justice pedagogies as a part of their preparation to teach in secondary schools. The curriculum focuses on honoring the assets of students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with a particular attention to social context. Candidates will learn through a combination of coursework, fieldwork, and inquiry and action research.
