What can you do with this degree?

Do you love English? Do you want to become a teacher?

You'll graduate equipped to teach students grades (8-12) critical skills in reading, writing, speaking & listening, digital and non-print media, and literary studies. You will also learn to build classroom environments and meaningful experiences to engage and motivate adolescents to become critical thinkers, strong readers, and skilled communicators.

Please note that the Secondary English Education major does not result in teacher certification, but does prepare you for graduate study in secondary education. When you complete the B.A., you can apply to the Master’s with Initial Certification (MIC) English Education degree program (one calendar year) to become certified in the state of Kentucky.

Delivery Method: Face-to-face, online, and hybrid course offerings

Credit Hours: 126 credit hours minimum

Graduates of our program use knowledge and state-of-the-art methods purposefully to teach language arts and literacy knowledge, skills, and practices for adolescent learners of all kinds. Our students learn to build classroom environments and meaningful experiences to increase adolescent students’ engagement and motivation to become critical thinkers, strong readers, and skilled communicators.
