Secondary Mathematics Education

* Does not lead to certification*

Welcome to the Undergraduate Secondary Mathematics Education Program at the University of Kentucky! We are particularly proud you are interested in learning more about this most challenging teaching experience. Students with whom you will be working mature, learn, and explore at different rates, seemingly in different directions during their Secondary Mathematics Experience. As a classroom teacher engaged in working with young people during this time in their life, you will make similar discoveries about better ways to teach, to manage a classroom, and to help a child learn.

Our Secondary Mathematics Education Program Faculty brings together educators from within the College of Education, faculty from the University community, the Professional Educators from the Bluegrass area, and advanced Secondary Mathematics education students.

The Secondary Mathematics Education Program is chaired by Dr. Margaret Mohr-Schroeder.  The Secondary Mathematics Education Program emphasizes the content knowledge needed for secondary mathematics teachers to be successful.  No certification is awarded with this B.A.  Students interested in certification at the secondary level need to complete the Masters in Education with Initial Certification (MIC).  The secondary mathematics education program requires 36 hours of mathematics plus 15 hours of Program Related Studies.  A Survey of Secondary Mathematics Curriculum and a Field Experiences courses are the highlights of the Program Related Studies courses.  The curriculum contract for the Secondary Mathematics Education Program can be found here.  For more information regarding the Secondary Mathematics Education program, including your advising needs, please go to: http://education.uky.edu/EDC/content/undergraduate-math-ed-advising.
