An Overview of the Graduate Program in
Literacy Education (Reading and Writing)

Welcome to the Literacy Program at the University of Kentucky! Literacy in the Commonwealth is a Primary through Adulthood experience. The graduate program is growing in several directions as evidenced by the Collaborative Center for Literacy Development, our doctoral program, and our Master's in Literacy degree that includes an endorsement in Reading and Writing.

We are particularly proud that you are interested in learning more about this most challenging teaching experience. Students with whom you will be working mature, learn, and explore at different rates, seemingly in different directions during their Literacy Skill acquisition experiences. As a literacy scholar, a literacy consultant or a classroom teacher engaged in working with young people during this time in their life, you will make similar discoveries about better ways to teach, to manage a classroom, to help a child or adult learn.

Professor Dr. Mary Shake is the Chair of the Literacy Program faculty, which manages the Literacy Program at UK.
