National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Startup Training

Dates: 1-3 p.m. ET Wednesday, July 22,  Wednesday July 29, and Wednesday August 5

Total PD Hours: 6

This workshop will jump start your journey through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). We will walk you through the requirements of the process to become a National Board Certified Teacher, help you unpack the standards specific to your certificate area, and will guide you to create a plan of action for completing the work in the upcoming academic year. Completion of this course will result in a UK “NBPTS Startup” badge.

Instructor Bio

photo of Dr. Lisa AmickDr. Lisa Amick spent ten years in the middle school mathematics classroom in Champaign, Illinois, earning her NBCT in 2010, and then joined the University of Kentucky in 2014 as a clinical assistant professor of mathematics education. She holds a Master’s in Educational Administration, a Master’s in Mathematics Education, and received her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. At UK she teaches math methods courses and chairs the STEM PLUS undergraduate program. She also holds a current seat on the Board of Directors for the KY NBPTS Network and is the director of a national research team through the MTE-P organization that aims to improve teacher support and retention.
