Fifty years ago, the University of Kentucky established the Department of Special Education, and today, the department includes programs and projects focused on improving the lives of individuals with disabilities of all ages. The public is invited to join the anniversary celebration in Lexington on October 13 and 14, 2018.
The UK College of Education’s Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Rehabilitation Counseling will host two events: an open house in Taylor Education Building/Dickey Hall Saturday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., and an afternoon of tailgating on The Hill at Keeneland, Sunday, Oct. 14, noon through the last race.
Both events are free to everyone associated with the department since 1968. All present and former students, faculty, staff, project personnel, colleagues, and friends are welcome. Anyone associated with UK’s programs in early childhood, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and communication disorders is included. We welcome our colleagues in the College of Education, school districts and the education and disability communities throughout Kentucky. Please plan to join us, and bring your family and friends.
Please forward this save-the-dates announcement to your classmates, students, and colleagues from the department and post this link to your social media accounts.
We will be posting and sending announcements with more details in late summer and fall. For updates, check the department’s website: https://education.uky.edu/edsrc/. If you will need a hotel, we recommend getting a reservation soon—it is a Keeneland weekend.
