Randolph Named to UK Alumni Board of Directors

Martha Elizabeth “Beth” Randolph of Lexington was elected to the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors as a College of Education representative. Her term began July 1, 2012, and will continue through June 30, 2015.

Randolph received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from UK in 1983 and worked in the field for a few years before returning to UK to become an elementary teacher. Graduating in 1987 and 1992 with a bachelor of arts and then a master’s degree in elementary education, she taught fifth and sixth grade for one year at Harrison Elementary School and fifth grade for 22 years at The School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA). While in this position she coached the SCAPA speech team to 13 consecutive state speech championships and continues to assist the team in its winning ways. She is the Bluegrass Region middle school board member for the Kentucky High School Speech League (K.H.S.S.L.) and was inducted into the K.H.S.S.L. Hall of Fame in 2008.

As a teacher, she received numerous awards including the Kentucky American History Teacher of the Year Award in 2010 and the Kentucky Veterans of Foreign Wars Elementary Citizenship Award in 2004. In 2008, she was a semi-finalist for the Ashland Oil Teacher of the Year Award. She also has received two UK College of Education Teacher Who Made a Difference Awards and numerous Fayette County FAME Awards. Currently, she is in her second year as the principal at the SCAPA. While an undergraduate, she swam on the UK Swim Team. She is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association.
