Dr. Travis Andrews is a clinical assistant professor of counselor education program in the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education. Dr. Andrews’ educational background includes degrees in Sociology (B.A.), Rehabilitation Counseling (M.A.), and Rehabilitation Counseling and Counselor Education (Ph.D.) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Dr. Andrews has ten years of experience as a clinical rehabilitation counselor. He owned and operated a private counseling practice, Andrews Counseling and Consulting, PLLC, in North Carolina. The primary counseling services included specialized trauma evaluations and trauma informed care for risk youth and adults, trauma informed care for individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, outpatient therapy, supported employment for people with disabilities, forensic vocational rehabilitation for people with disabilities and perpetrators, and clinical supervision of counseling students. In addition, Dr. Andrews is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Board Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH), and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) in North Carolina.
Currently, Dr. Andrews is a Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies, Interdisciplinary Disability Studies and a clinical fieldwork coordinator of entry-level counselor education program. Dr. Andrews’ research interests include rehabilitation education related to recruitment and retention of minority students and rehabilitation counselors, distance education and technology in counseling, and minorities with disabilities with a focus on mental health and school to work transition. He has published one book chapters, and several peer-reviewed articles in progress. He has presented several presentations in national and local professional conferences.
