Dr. Jan Ainger is an instructor in the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education. She received her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Tennessee in Deaf and Elementary Education. She recently completed her Ph.D. in Education at George Mason University. She taught for eight years in deaf/hard of hearing classrooms in PreK-8 schools. She taught for two years as a middle school language arts special education teacher for students with learning/behavior disabilities. Her research interests include the inclusion of students with disabilities into the general education reading classroom, and co-teaching, and teacher collaborative practices.
