With the start of the 2012-2013 academic year, the UK College of Education hosted the K-Week College of Education Fair on Tuesday, August 21. The day kicked off with an assortment of activities for students, faculty and staff on the Taylor Education Building front lawn that included food, entertainment, prizes, educational activities, demonstrations and informational displays. This year these displays extended beyond the College's departments and offices to include a number of community groups such as the Fayette County Public Schools, Kentucky Education Television, Woodford County Public Schools, International Book Project and the YMCA of Central Kentucky.
The day continued with new student tours of the College and a welcome convocation where incoming students were addressed by Dean Mary John O'Hair, Associate Dean Steve Parker, Faculty Council Chair Ralph Crystal and Council of Student Leaders Chair Eli Edwards. The day ended with informational displays from the many College of Education student organizations.
In addition to the K-Week Fair, the College also hosted a retreat during which faculty, staff and students discussed the following topics:
- Planning for the Future of Teacher and Leader Education;
- Achieving a Top 25 National Ranking;
- Focusing on Next Generation Learning, Graduate and Undergraduate Student Success, and Graduation;
- Creating Healthy Work and Learning Environments; and
- Securing New Resources.
Faculty, staff and students were able to take part in three of the five sessions and at the end of the day had the opportunity to select the group in which they would work over the course of the year.
