For the first time, the University of Kentucky College of Education will offer digital badges students can earn fully online as they invest in their well-being and build professional skills. Digital badges can be used on a resume, social media, email signature and other ways to signify additional study in a particular topic. The College of Education badges can also be combined to work toward a minor and/or a major in Health Promotion.
Led by faculty in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion, students may choose one or more of the three badge programs below. Register by Monday, May 11 at: https://summer.uky.edu/registration-and-costs/register
Earn a badge to invest in your own personal health and wellness while gaining an introduction to professional skills, which support a career in health promotion or other health-related field.
The Healthy Living badge is a two-course series specially designed for non-health promotion majors and minors who are interested in acquiring a strong foundation in health-related topics, skills to promote personal well-being, and skills for future success in a health-related profession or interest area. There are no prerequisite courses nor credit hour minimums. This badge is open to all UK students outside of health promotion and anyone with a high school diploma.
To earn the Healthy Living badge, the courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020.

Learn about various dimensions of wellness and how to apply this information to support your own health as well as the health of others.

Critical Health Issues Badge
Earn a badge to take a deep dive into current critical health issues. Gain an introduction to professional skills to support a career in health promotion.
The Critical Health Issues badge is a two-course series specially designed for non-health promotion majors and minors who are interested in acquiring a strong foundation in current and emerging health-related topics such as health inequities, mental health, cardiovascular disease, cancer prevention, substance use and dependence, as well as approaches to enhance interpersonal health.
Students will also be introduced to health promotion principles and skills for future success in a health-related profession or interest area. There are no prerequisite courses nor credit hour minimums. This badge program is to all UK students outside of health promotion and anyone with a high school diploma.
To earn the Exploring a Career in Health Promotion badge, the courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020.

Learn about emerging opportunities within the health education and health promotion profession. Future trends in health and application of skills to embark on a successful career path will also be explored.

Learn about current and significant health issues to increase knowledge, skills, and health literacy and keep up with the rapidly changing health world.

Sex & Drug Education and Prevention Badge
Earn a badge to take a deep dive into a variety of areas of interest within sexuality and drug education and prevention. Evidence-based information will be shared in order to apply necessary skills for successful understanding of these important topics.
The Sex & Drug Education and Prevention Badge is specially designed for non-health promotion majors and minors who are interested in acquiring a strong foundation in sexuality and drug education principles. It is also great for parents who want to prepare themselves for all those questions kids ask about these sometimes tough to talk about topics. In addition, it provides an opportunity to learn about the many growing career options in these areas.
There are no prerequisite courses nor credit hour minimums. Open to all UK students outside of health promotion and anyone outside of UK with a high school diploma.
To earn the Sex & Drug Education and Prevention Badge, the courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020.

Learn about evidence-based, medically accurate, inclusive sexuality education and prevention practices, strategies, and activities applicable to school, home, and community settings.

Learn about the physiological, psychological, and social effects of various drugs in addition to the prevalence of drug use by youth and effective and ineffective approaches to drug use education and prevention.
