Joni Meade, clinical faculty in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has helped bring together high school and college students looking to make a difference. They have developed a long-term commitment to enriching the health and education of children and their families at Westminster Village apartments. Meade is an advisor to UK’s Elementary Education Student Association, and has partnered the group with the Lexington Catholic High School and Frederick Douglass High School service clubs. Students who live at Westminster Village attend Picadome Elementary, and their principal and teachers are also part of the outreach efforts. The groups have hosted vision screenings with the Lions Club, weekly summer fun nights, a fall festival, and – most recently – a holiday party at the apartment’s clubhouse.
