Chris Nichols

Chris has been a Physical Educator for 23 years in Texas. He was just awarded the 2018 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year. He has also formerly served as the Early Childhood Chair Elect for the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD). Chris has presented at state and national conferences and spent two years writing curriculum, creating and delivering professional development, and supporting physical education teachers as a Health and Physical Education Specialist in a large urban district. Now an elementary Physical Education teacher in Garland ISD, Chris strives to promote a healthy and physically active lifestyle in both his personal and professional life.

At this year’s UK PAWS Institute, Chris will be presenting on appropriate uses of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), cooperative and problem based learning in physical education, using ACTION based games in your curriculum, and integrating STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) into lessons.

Jo Bailey

Jo Bailey has been teaching Physical Education for over 20 years – she currently teaches Physical Education at D.C. Everest Senior High in Weston, WI., USA. Originally from the UK, Jo spent much of her life in Hong Kong and taught in the both the UK and Hong Kong for several years before moving to the USA in 2004. Jo is a National Board Certified Teacher, a Google Certified Innovator, and was the 2013 Midwest SHAPE America High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. She is a leader in the field of physical education regularly speaking around the United States and internationally. At this year’s PAWS Institute Jo will be presenting strategies for maximzing student learning, enjoyment and engagement in secondary physical education. Ideas for instant activities, gamifying lessons, using standards-based instruction and assessment, and how to use technology in physical education to save time.
