Fundraising Event for UK Students’ Program to Help Autism Community

A UK College of Education student group is raising funds to host events that build and maintain partnerships between police officers and members of the autism community. From 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 customers at Mellow Mushroom (S. Upper Street) can have 15 percent of their bill donated to the Police Autism Community Training program (PACT).

The event is being hosted by the UK chapter of the School Affiliates of School Psychology (SASP), based in the UK College of Education’s Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology (EDP). It is a student-led organization for doctoral and specialist students pursuing a career in school psychology. A small group of EDP students formed the PACT program. Their goal is to prepare law enforcement professionals and members of the autism community for safe interactions during future crisis situations. Formal police training and informal open houses are held by PACT to provide a space for safe and positive interactions. PACT is in need of financial support to host Lexington meet and greet sessions. Please mention you’re with PACT, and make sure you put your Mellow Mushroom receipt in the GroupRaise box. RSVP by clicking here.
