Forbes lists University of Kentucky College of Education professor John Thelin’s book, A History of American Higher Education, 3rd edition, as one of 2019’s best books covering American higher education.

The article was written by Michael T. Nietzel, a former UK faculty member and administrator.

“Scholars of higher education have long recognized Thelin’s authoritative work as an indispensable source for studying the early developments and current issues defining American colleges and universities,” Nietzel wrote. “This third edition features a new concluding chapter examining the opportunities and problems higher education has faced since 2010.”

Thelin is a professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation. The department offers M.S., Ph.D. and Ed.D. degree programs in social, historical and policy studies of education, higher education, student services, and educational research methods. It also has graduate certificate programs in international education and research methods in education. Students in the department pursue both academic and applied careers.
