“The change in the mood of American higher education from 1960 to 1969 was incredible and surprising — from optimism and confidence to exhaustion and uncertainty,” Dr. John Thelin tells Inside Higher Ed’s Scott Jaschik in a Q&A feature about his latest book, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. Thelin, a professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation, is considered a leading authority on the history of American higher education. As an undergraduate, he attended Brown University, where he was photographed, second man from the left in a white button-down shirt, in the image above.
