How do vouchers that allow public school students to attend private school affect student achievement?
The University of Kentucky College of Education’s Joseph Waddington, an assistant professor in the Department of Education Policy Studies and Evaluation, is seeking to get more insight into that question, in collaboration with Mark Berends of the University of Notre Dame. Waddington and Berends are looking specifically into the impact of the Indiana Choice Scholarship Program on upper elementary and middle school students who used a voucher to transfer from a public to a private school during the first four years of the program, beginning in 2011.
National Public Radio spoke with Waddington for a story featured Monday.
