Guatemala

Students participating on this program will spend 11 days working in a children’s home and preschool in Guatemala City. Students will work together to implement the Global Guidelines Assessment (ACEI) to examine the quality of the children’s home and preschool. Based on the results, students will provide training to caregivers and preschool staff on ways to improve the quality of their programs.┬áStudents will also visit educational programs throughout Guatemala City and draw conclusions about the differences between education in the United States and Guatemala.

In addition, students will assess children, with and without disabilities, who attend the preschool and live at the children’s home to determine their developmental strength and needs. Once the assessment is completed, students identify prioritized goals and design learning activities for children based on assessment data. Finally, they will meet with caregivers to provide suggestions for how to promote the children’s development within the context of preschool and home routines and activities.
