The Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology (EDP), in collaboration with the University of Kentucky’s Social Justice Advocacy Group and the UK Violence Intervention and Prevention recently received an Inclusive Excellence Program Award for a proposal on EDP’s Social Justice Scholarship Series (SJSS).
The SJSS was designed for students and faculty in EDP and in the College of Education to actively engage in reading, discussing, thinking critically, and reflecting on how to better advocate as professionals and as citizens in our communities on issues of inequality for historically oppressed and marginalized groups.
EDP has hosted the SJSS in the spring semester the last 2 years, meeting once a month for the semester with assigned readings due. The SJSS was started by Dr. Kenneth Tyler, Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor of Educational Psychology. This year the SJSS will focus on Sexuality, Gender, and Race.
