Literacy Education

Literacy in the Commonwealth is a lifelong experience. The Literacy Program is growing in several directions, as evidenced by the Collaborative Center for Literacy Development, our doctoral program, and our Master’s in Literacy degree, which includes an endorsement in reading and writing.

We are proud that you are interested in learning more about this most challenging teaching experience. Students with whom you will be working mature, learn, and explore at different rates, in different directions during their literacy skill acquisition experiences. As a literacy scholar, a literacy consultant, or a classroom teacher engaged in working with young people, you will make similar discoveries about better ways to teach, manage classrooms, and help children or adults learn.

Professor Dr. Janice Almasi is the Chair of the Literacy Program faculty, which manages the Literacy Program at UK.
