Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in initiating, evaluating, and improving student advising services and activities for undergraduate students in the college
  • Oversees advising for all undergraduate students which includes advising for academic progress and program completion; conducting athletic, student teaching, and graduation audits; planning and implementing advising conferences; facilitating registration and scheduling; and maintaining student records
  • Works with the Director of Recruitment to administer a student satisfaction/feedback
    system to collect data regarding quality of advising services
  • Based on feedback, provides professional development for advisors with an
    overall focus on customer service and satisfaction
  • Develops and implements strategies to strengthen two-way communication
    among advisors, students, faculty, staff, and Work Group 3
  • Handles student matters related to advising, petitions, appeals, withdrawals,
    retroactive withdrawals, academic offenses, probation, suspension, and
    reinstatements
  • Oversees activities associated with the Dean’s List which include preparing the dean’s
    letter and individual certificates, highlighting accomplishments of recipients, and coordinating an annual reception for students and their families
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates strategies to increase retention and
    graduation rates for undergraduate students, including student success activities and events such as K-Week
  • Works with the Director of Engagement to develop opportunities for
    undergraduate students to be involved in COE engagement activities with
    centers, institutes, clinics, labs, and networks
  • Oversees the Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Advising and
    Student Success; supervises advisors
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the Inclusiveness Committee, the Library
    Committee, and the Undergraduate Committee on Admissions and Standards
  • Serves as the Safety Officer for the College of Education and works with central
    administration to implement safety policies and procedures for the college
  • Represents the college at regular monthly meetings of associate deans with the
    Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education
  • Serves as a member of the COE Leadership Team and Work Groups
