Professor Brown-Wright Named ADLP FellowLynda Brown-Wright, associate professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, is one of three University of Kentucky faculty members to be named a Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium (SECAC) 2008-09 Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP) Fellow. The ALDP is designed to help faculty members of SECAC institutions flourish as academic leaders, creating a pool of candidates from which future leaders will come. Fellows will take part in on-campus and off-campus workshops and activities throughout the next year. “I am very pleased and honored to have been selected for this opportunity,” Brown-Wright said. “It is my hope that the experiences I will gain during the fellowship will enhance my ability to become a highly effective, as well as a transformational, leader in upper administration within the academy.” The first off-campus ALDP workshop will take place in Columbia, S.C., this fall and will focus on “Leading for Excellence.” Topics will include managing in a higher education setting, emergency/crisis preparedness, and communication with the media and other external constituents. The second workshop will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., in February 2009. The focus there will be “Implementing Excellence” and will provide information on planning, funding and budgeting. Brown-Wright has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Texas A & M University. Her current areas of research interests include psychosocial and familial influences on African-American child development; determinants of academic achievement among children and youth of color; and psychosocial correlates of the development of cardiovascular disease risk in children and youth. Headquartered in Fayetteville, SECAC is a voluntary consortium of the 12 Southeastern Conference (SEC) universities. It was formed to advance academic successes throughout the SEC by pooling resources and creating new ideas through a collaborative approach. |
