Undergraduate Program in Physical Education/Kinesiology P-12

Welcome to the webpage for the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion  Kinesiology Teacher (P-12) Certification Program. The Kinesiology Teacher Certification degree offers students certification degrees in both physical education and health education.  This degree is for students interested in teaching physical education and health. The double major provides students with a greater advantage and higher rates of hire within the schools systems upon graduation with degrees in physical education and health education. A single major option of Kinesiology certification is offered with the addition of one or more University-approved minors (18-21 hours), however, students are strongly encouraged to complete degrees in both physical education and health education.
The complete double major requires completion of the University Studies Program (USP) along with requirements in
program related studies, performance, core content, professional education courses and the health education courses . The coursework focuses on teaching methods in health education and physical education. Professional education courses equip students with the knowledge and skills to become efficient educators through observation and field work.

To be accepted into the Teacher Education Program students must meet certain academic requirements, complete application, submit portfolios, submit a writing sample, and complete the interview process.  Following completion of coursework, students complete a semester of student teaching. Completion of this degree qualifies students to pursue state teaching certification in physical education and health education, grades P-12.

Further information about the Kinesiology (P-12) Certification Program requirements can be found on the Undergraduate Advising website.
