SEMINAR IN PUBLIC ANTHROPOLOGY ANT 770 002 Wednesdays 11:00am-1:30pm Dr. A. Gwynn Henderson - aghend2@uky.edu Public anthropology is the interaction between practitioners and various stakeholders. It is interpretation. It is communication. Public anthropology happens in the rarified, challenging, rewarding place where the discipline intersects with the real world. During this course, students will: participate in a guided, structured, hands-on public anthropology experience that will prepare them to interact successfully with the public, while simultaneously critically examining and exploring some of public anthropology’s main issues and theoretical frameworks; and gaining a working knowledge in some of the discipline’s fundamental concepts, tools, and methods. Our hands-on experience will take place at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary in southeastern Fayette County. This 734-acre municipal preserve, dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the Kentucky River Palisades and early Kentucky history, is a rich landscape of prehistoric and historic features. Prerequisite: Graduate standing in anthropology or related fields (e.g., historic preservation, history, geography, education, museum studies) or permission of instructor. For more information, email aghend2@uky.edu or call 859-257-1944. MGT 795: Social Network Analysis, a Ph.D. level course taught each Spring <!--Session data--> |
