Jane Jensen, Ph.D, Indiana University, 1997. Associate Professor and EdD Cohort Director
Dr. Jensen (vita in PDF) joined the EPE faculty from Indiana University with a joint degree in Anthropology and Higher Education. Her research interests are qualitative research methodology, issues in postcompulsary education, and post-secondary transitions. Dr. Jensen's research includes the study of post-secondary education and development in rural North America.She focuses upon the authenticity of local knowledge production and learning as processes that synthesize and reflect the larger political economy. She has recently completed research in Eastern Kentucky on high school students’ aspirations for college and issues of identity development for college students majoring in STEM disciplines and is currently conducting evaluation studies for the Department of Labor TAACCCT program and NIH training grants. Dr. Jensen is also collaborating with faculty in Italy and Central Asia on the study of transitions from secondary to post-secondary education in Europe and Kazakhstan. Dr. Jensen holds a M.S. in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University and a B.A. from the University of Virginia.
At the University of Kentucky Dr. Jensen teaches courses in field studies, comparative higher education, sociology of higher education, and the community college. As a member of the Honors Program faculty of record, she teaches an education-abroad course on university student mobility for the program in Italy. From 2003-2006, Dr. Jensen coordinated First Year Initiatives for the Office of Undergraduate Education, including the establishment of university-wide Academic Enhancement programs in The Study. She has also served on the General Education Oversight Committee.
Dr. Jensen is co-author of a text for first year college students, Piecing it Together: A Guide to Student Academic Success, and an ethnographic study, Post-Secondary Education on the Edge: Self-Improvement and Community Development in a Cape Breton Coal Town, published by Peter Lang.
