Funding Opportunities

Financial aid in the form of scholarships, teaching and research assistantships, and fellowships is widely available at the University of Kentucky. Funding is available from multiple sources including the department, the College of Education, other units on campus, and national and international agencies. Other research and graduate assistantships are available within the University community and are announced as they become available. Full and half-time research and teaching assistantships generally offer tuition fellowships. The links provided below are to assist students with locating and applying for funding.

Psychology Awards and Grants - Multiple fields

• APA Dissertation Research Award program helps cover research costs ($1000-$5000). Open to students nearing their dissertation who study any area of psychology. [Deadline: September 15]
• APA Early Graduate Student Research Awards - open to students within their first three years of graduate school. [Deadline: September 15]
• SRCD Dissertation Funding Research Awards - Up to five awards ($2,000 max.) will be given for research proposals that merit special recognition and display the strong potential to contribute to the field of human development. [Deadline: October 1]
• AERA Research Awards - Lists of awards by Divisions and Special Interest Groups - applies to all programs
• AERA Dissertation Grants -  awards up to $20,000 for using a secondary data set for your dissertation

Educational Psychology Awards

• APA Division 15 (Educational Psychology) Dissertation Research Awards - open to doctoral candidates who are also members of Division 15 (Educational Psychology).  Funds $1,000 toward research expenses. [Deadline: May 1]
• APA Division 15 (Educational Psychology) Pintrich Outstanding Dissertation Research Award - open to recent graduates who defended dissertations within the past two years. $500 stipend and up to $1000 in conference travel [Deadline: December 31] 
• AERA Division C (Learning and Instruction) Graduate Student Research Excellence Awards - open to current or recent graduate students.  $500 stipend [Deadline: January]
• AERA Division D (Measurement and Research Methodology) Outstanding Quantitative Dissertation Award - open to recent graduates who defended dissertations no earlier than the academic year of or prior to the award announcement [Deadline: November 30]

School Psychology Awards

• The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) offers school psychology Graduate Student Research Grants of up to $1,000 to fund graduate student research. Doctoral and non-doctoral students may apply. Recepients are also eligible for $500 travel grants to present their funded research results at a NASP Convention.

• NASP-ERT Minority Scholarship Program annually awards a minimum of one $5,000 scholarship to a chosen minority graduate student in school psychology. [Deadline: November 1]
  

Counseling Psychology Awards

• Division 17/Section for the Advancement of Women offers a $200 Dissertation and Thesis Award for a proposal of original research by a Counseling Psychology graduate student whose research focuses on issues that pertain to the lives of women and girls. Special consideration will be given to projects that focus on women and girls from marginalized groups because of their race, ethnicity, immigrant status, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other factors. • AERA Division E (Counseling and Human Development) Outstanding Dissertation Award - open to students in counseling who completed dissertations within the past three years.
