Counseling Psychology: Master's Degree

The Master of Science in Education is a 36-hour degree program that is geared toward preparation for further academic work toward a PhD in Counseling Psychology or other advanced professional degree.

The Master's degree also provides the foundation for pursuit of state licensure for persons interested in working as a counselor in a variety of settings. To become eligible for licensure as a professional counselor or as a psychological associate, additional coursework and internship experiences are provided via the Educational Specialist degree (EdS).  After completing the Master’s degree, students may apply to continue in the Specialist degree program to prepare for either of these two types of professional licensure.

The Master's program is full time (minimum of nine credits per semester). Most students complete the Master’s program in 2 or 2.5 years of full-time study.  Master’s students are expected to be aware of the appropriate Kentucky Revised Statues (KRS) and Kentucky Administrative Regulations (KAR), as specified by the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology, and to be governed by the University of Kentucky Graduate School Bulletin.

In order to prepare incoming students and remind current students of Graduate School and Program Academic policies, a full description of the requirements for the MS in Counseling Psychology are fully described in the program Handbook (listed by topic below and in the menu on right).  current handbook.
