2009 Counseling Program Full Disclosure Data
We seek qualified students who will enrich the program’s commitment to social justice. Our program’s philosophy is guided by three concepts: the scientist-practitioner model of training and practice, a systems perspective of person-environment interaction and interdependence, and a community perspective that values and promotes social justice.
At present the program has 73% women and 27% men. 33% of the current students represent minority groups and/or international students. The overall (verbal and quantitative) average score on the GRE for current students is 1065. The overall undergraduate GPA is 3.21. For the entering Class of 2009, 48 students applied, nine were admitted and five accepted. Of those students beginning in the Fall of 2009, 100% received their undergraduate degrees and 40% received their graduate degrees outside of Kentucky. The program faculty is committed to the high rate of program completion and makes every effort to facilitate student progress. Our program students have been highly successful in obtaining internship placements. Counseling psychology doctoral students present papers at international, national, and regional meetings and co-author journal articles with faculty and/or other graduate students.

Further, the “Doris and Bill Stilwell Graduate Fellowship” that was recently established by our former DOT and his wife is supporting a counseling student for 2009-2010. Our students are also eligible for and win university-wide fellowships. Our counseling psychology doctoral students are also funded through research and teaching assistantships throughout the University of Kentucky. Funded practicum opportunities in several community agencies are also available. Overall, all program students are able to obtain some type of funding.
