School Technology Leadership ProgramThe University of Kentucky Department of Educational Leadership Studies is proud to offer School Technology Leadership programs to school leaders globally. These online programs are meant to serve anyone who has a school leadership role and who cares heavily about the role that technology plays in our education systems. These courses are an ideal mechanism for schools, districts, states, and nations to build their technology-related leadership capacity and are an excellent resource for superintendents, principals, district technology coordinators, media specialists, teachers, and other educators interested in the leadership aspects of K-12 technology.
Because UK is the institutional home of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the only international center dedicated to the technology needs of school leaders, we offer the best faculty, research, and teaching in this area to our students. Additionally, because the core courses are tied to ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS-A), there is an internationally-recognized foundation for the programs. Three OptionsStudents can choose one of three different program tracks that suit their needs. All program tracks include the 5 core courses that address the NETS-A standards. In addition, Kentucky students that are looking to gain a teacher leader endorsement may do so using the teacher leadership program with a technology specialization. Master's Degree (or Ed.S. if already possessing a Master's) Ph.D. in Education Sciences with a Specialization in School Technology Leadership World Class FacultyWhile a variety of instructors teach in all of the programs, the core School Technology Leadership program faculty are: In addition to these professors, students will interact heavily with other professors in the Department of Educational Leadership Studies and a variety of carefully selected educational technology leaders from across the globe. HistoryWhen Dr. Scott McLeod, Founding Director of CASTLE, was at the University of Minnesota, he co-created the first graduate program in the United States designed to prepare technology-savvy school leaders. The School Technology Leadership Initiative (STLI) was the first academic program based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS-A) and was the only one proven (by the American Institutes for Research) to have positive, statistically-significant impacts on participants’ technology leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities. He ran four cohorts through that program before coming to the University of Kentucky. We are delighted to be able to offer these courses again. OfficialWe are official. As of April 9, by a vote of the University of Kentucky Senate, all elements of these programs are official and we can enroll beginning fall 2012.
