A degree (Master's and Specialist) is awarded to a student by the University of Kentucky's Graduate School for completion of an advanced program and an exit exam. Q: How come I have a letter admitting me to the UK Graduate School, but I'm still not admitted to the Department of Educational Leadership Studies?
A: At UK, there is a two part application process. Part 1: The Graduate School must first approve your qualifications (grade point averages and graduate record exams). Part 2: The department then reviews your qualifications (GPA, GRE scores, references, and writing samples) and makes a decision about accepting you for admission to a program in the department. In summary, it is necessary for you to apply to both the Graduate School and the department in order to earn a degree and/or a certificate.
Q: Do I have to be in one of the cohort programs to earn a degree?
A: No, students may still take courses at their own pace for any of the degree or certification programs. A little over one-third of EDL's students are not members of a degree or certification cohort.
