Our Finnish Partnership

Mika Risku joined the Department of Educational Leadership Studies in the fall as our Practitioner-Scholar in Residence. Mika is currently the Associate Director of the Institute for Educational Leadership at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland and before that he was a middle school principal. The Finnish Ministry of Education sponsored his visit.

A Conversation with South African Scholars

Had the marvelous opportunity a couple weeks ago to sit down and chat with Professors Rika Jobert and Jean Van Rooyen, of the University of Pretoria's Department of Education Management and Policy Studies. We chatted about educational law, leadership issues, finance issues, preparation issues, etc. It was a great time and our department enjoyed hosting them in Lexington before they went on to Louisville for the ELA conference. Scholars Visiting from South Africa

Rika Jobert and Jean van Rooyen, scholars at the University of Pretoria,  will be visiting the department and the College during the week of Oct. 19. Rika and Jean work in the Department of Education Management and Policy Studies and study educational law and finance, respectively, in South African education.

Dr. Browne-Ferrigno interviewed on University/District Partnerships

The University Council for Educational Administration is going to interview Dr. Tricia Browne-Ferrigno on Oct. 9 on her work with university-district partnerships.

Kentucky Principals Featured on KET

Don’t miss a great opportunity to learn about more about school leadership through the lens of practicing leaders! On Tuesday, September 15, KET1 (Cable Channel 12) is airing two related programs on school leadership. These promise to be stimulating pieces on lessons learned from school principals.  

Beth Randolph Named Kentucky's 2009 History Teacher of the Year

Current EDL student, and COE alum, Beth Randolph was named the 2009 History Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Historical Society. Beth is a teacher at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Fayette County. She is in the running for National History Teacher of the Year ... good luck Beth and thanks for being such a great teacher for Kentucky's kids.
