An Overview of the Undergraduate Program in Secondary Social Studies Education

Welcome to the Undergraduate Social Studies Education Program at the University of Kentucky! We are particularly proud that you are interested learning more about this most challenging teaching experience. Students with whom you will be working mature, learn, and explore at different rates, seemingly in different directions during their Social Studies Experience. As a classroom teacher engaged in working with young people during this time in their life, you will make similar discoveries about better ways to teach, to manage a classroom, to help a child learn.

Professor Dr. Kathy Swan is the Program Faculty Chair of the Secondary Social Studies Education Program.

Our Secondary Social Studies Education Program Faculty brings together educators from within the College of Education, faculty from the University community, the Professional Educators from the Bluegrass area, and advanced Secondary Social Studies education students.

Interested prospective undergraduate students are encouraged to apply to UK and indicate their strong interest in the Secondary Social Studies Education program. *The four undergradute secondary education programs do not result in certification, but do prepare the graduate for graduate study in secondary education. This undergraduate program does not lead to certification. Upon completion of the undergraduate program you may apply to the Master's with Initial Certification (MIC) Social Studies Education degree program.
