Planned Fifth-Year Program in EDC

A Planned Fifth-Year Program will satisfy requirements for the renewal of provisional teaching certificates and qualifis for Rank II classification under the foundation law.

The program of study will be planned individually by each student in consultation with an advisor during the first semester of coursework.  Generally, no more than nine semester hours may be taken at other insitutions.  In unusual circumstances, twelve semester hours may be taken from other institutions, with the approval in advance of the advisor and the Director of Graduate Studies. Correspondence credit may not apply to the program.

The following guidelines apply to the selection of coursework to satisfy the Fifth-Year Program:

  1. A minimum of nine semester hours will be taken in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Kentucky.  The program will include at least three semester hours credit in related areas in education; i.e. Education, Psychology, Foundations, etc.

  2. A minimum of twelve semester hours in the teachers area of specialization (teaching major/minor).

  3. A minimum of twelve semester hours of the 32 hour program total will be in graduate level courses.
